Decluttering

Summer seems like a great time to declutter and get rid of things that are no longer needed. Following spring cleaning, you take a fresh look at what still is lying around.

Dead Code

Such as the code that is no longer used. It was added for that one customer, who ended up leaving later anyway. Rip that dead code out!

Dirty Code

Of course, we should be cleaning up dirty code when we come across it all the time. However, there seems to be something about summer-time that provides you a fresh perspective on things. Maybe this is something fairly drastic, like adding in a static code analysis tool, or a code formatting tool. Maybe it is just tackling that pet peeve area that’s been bugging you.

Surrounding the Code

All the stuff that surrounds the code becomes cluttered too. The documentation, build processes; even infrastructure becomes cluttered too.

Take some of this summer time and declutter your code, making it better than it was before.
