It is Christmas Day!
We see in America that it is becoming less and less “politically correct” to say things like “Merry Christmas!”. It is now just a generic holiday season. Yet at the same time, we still enforce the importance of the holiday. At least the importance of buying tons of stuff for yourself and your loved ones.
While the culture at large may want to deny the Reason for the season, we still know what it is. We still know Who it is. And He stands in stark contrast to what the season has morphed into.
God In The Flesh
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, truly came down to join His creation in the flesh. When He was born to Mary and Joseph, they really had nothing. They had what they could carry. They barely found shelter in which to birth a child. The creator of the universe is here lying exposed and naked.
Instead of exposing ourselves like this and becoming ultimately vulnerable, we perhaps started to follow the example of the Magi, the 3 wise men. Giving gifts. They understood the importance of the day, and they responded by bringing precious gifts to their Lord.
The concept of giving still stands high in our minds for this season. We still retain an echo in our culture for why our God came down among us. He come down to give His life for ours. He came down to give us His righteousness, and to take our filth with Him to the cross.
As always, focus not on the getting this season. Focus on the giving. Not just your own giving, but look for the echo around you. See if those around you also retain the echo, and perhaps are more eager to give than they may usually be.
Oh here is the place for those of you who may have a sense of humor and/or think that the Christians just stole this holiday.
